The Amazon Echo is a Bluetooth speaker powered by Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa. Alexa can control a variety of smart home devices directly, or you can use “If then do It” to control a variety of other devices through custom pairing. You can use Alexa to monitor most gadgets in your house with the help of sound, but this will take some effort. If you already have your favorite speaker, you can connect it to an Echo Dot with a clock and add Alexa functionality. Google Nest Hub Family
If you prefer Google Assistant over Amazon Alexa, Google’s Nest Hub family of speakers and smart displays is a good choice. Sonos also recently released Roam, but we found that in our tests, it didn’t sound as good as an outdoor-friendly speaker at the same price.

Connect Sense Smart Outlet 2 is a great choice to add smart technology to small household appliances such as coffee machines, lights and TVs. This flexible dual-socket smart plug works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri voice commands and can be managed through the Android or iOS mobile app. It doesn’t support IFTTT, but you can use HomeKit Scenes and Automations to make it work with other smart home gadgets, and you can track the energy consumption of both sockets.

When we reviewed the original Nanit in 2018, we thought it was great, and we thought Nanit Plus was better, so we awarded it an Editor’s Choice award. The new Nanit Pro full monitoring system removed these models and made some changes to the camera and some changes to the application/service, enough to keep it ahead of the competition. The resolution of the camera has been improved and night vision has been improved, but the biggest improvement is the ability to use the device to track your child’s progress.
